AURORA - Jefferson Middle School was evacuated after a bomb threat at 3:04 p.m. Thursday, Aurora police said.
According to Aurora police spokesman Dan Ferrelli, officers were dispatched to Jefferson Middle School, 1151 Plum Street, after a student claimed he was in possession of a bomb. The school was evacuated and upon further investigation officers discovered that the report was a hoax. Jefferson Middle School is part of the West Aurora School District.
Officers took a 12-year-old male student into custody, police said. As a precaution, the student’s locker was searched and nothing was found. All students are safe, according to a statement from the school district.
As of 4 p.m. Thursday, police were in the process of doing a more thorough search and are awaiting the arrival of a specially-trained K-9 to assure there are no explosives, Ferrelli said.
