AURORA — Police are looking for other women who may have been assaulted by a 37-year-old Aurora man.
Derrick Chaney, 3300 block of Allspice Court, was arrested on Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting an Iowa woman in January. He has been charged with criminal sexual assault, unlawful restraint and kidnapping in connection with the Jan. 14 attack that occurred at a motel in the 2300 block of North Farnsworth Avenue in Aurora, police said.
Police believe Chaney met the woman on a dating website. After several weeks of talking over the Internet and on the phone, the two met in person at the motel, where Chaney held her against her will and raped her, police said.
During the investigation of the incident, police learned that Chaney may have met other women through various dating websites or by going to nightclubs in the northwest suburbs.
Police said Chaney has been known to lie about his name, job, financial status, and education level. He has also been known to drive several luxury vehicles. He has been well dressed at the dance clubs he visited, and bragged about having VIP status at those clubs, police said.
Detectives are investigating other reported crimes that may involve Chaney and are looking for information on crimes that have not yet been reported, police said.
They are asking other women who may have been victimized or anyone who has information about similar incidents to call Aurora investigators at 630-256-5500.
