Aurora man charged with felony in theft of muffler

An Aurora man is facing felony charges for trying to flee with a stolen muffler from an Aurora business, police said.

According to Aurora police, at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, a man working at a business in the 600 block of North Broadway saw Luis Rocha, 26, of West Park Place, grab a used muffler worth $85, police said. Rocha took the muffler to his car and drove away, police said.

Rocha was stopped a short time later and police found the muffler, a radiator, a condenser, two compressors and two car batteries in the trunk of his car, police said. Rocha had previous convictions for felony burglary and felony theft, police said.

Aurora

Ignacio Torres, 30, a homeless man, was charged with felony knowingly damaging property for throwing a landscaping brick through the window of a business in the 100 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 6:54 p.m. Saturday, police said. Total loss was $1,200, police said.

Carlos Rodriguez, 29, 1100 block of South President Street, Wheaton, was charged with felony aggravated battery to a police officer and misdemeanor resisting arrest at 1:45 a.m. Friday in the 0-99 block of East New York Street, police said.

Arturo Hernandez, 47, 1700 block of Felten Road, Aurora, was charged with felony suspended license last week in the 1600 block of Felten Road, police said.

Dennis Rausch, 21, 0-99 block of South Evanslawn Avenue, Aurora, was charged with drunken driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to reduce speed and disregarding a stop sign at 1:32 a.m. Sunday in the 900 block of Fallen Oak Trail, police said.

Gabriel Morga, 52, 100 block of Woodlawn Avenue, Aurora, was charged with felony suspended license and misdemeanor unlawful stopping on a road at 5:05 p.m. Friday in the 600 block of East Downer Place, police said.

Domingo Chapa Jr., 42, 400 block of Fifth Street, Aurora, was charged with felony violating the Sex Offender Registration Act at 10 a.m. Friday at the Aurora Police Station, police said.

Karen Reeves, 44, 0-99 block of East Main Street, Plano, was charged with drunken driving, failure to signal, improper lane use and no driver’s license at 1:18 a.m. Saturday in the 1400 block of North Farnsworth Avenue, police said.

Copper piping, worth $20,000, was stolen from a home in the 1200 block of Cottonwood Drive last week, police said.

Batavia

Derek Schmitt, 30, 1000 block of Willow Lane, Batavia, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, revoked license, improper use of a vehicle registration, no registration and no insurance Friday in the 400 block of North Kirk Road, police said.

Geneva

Janice Gearhart, 56, 800 block of Geneva Drive, Geneva, was charged with drunken driving, illegal transportation of alcohol and suspended license last week in the 1200 block of East State Street, police said.

A gold chain bracelet, worth $2,000, was reported stolen from a woman’s locker at a fitness center in the 200 block of South Randall Road, Geneva police said. The theft was reported last week.

Kendall County

Eric Dunn, 42, 3400 block of Wolf Road, Oswego, was charged with drunken driving and improper lane use at 2:01 a.m. Saturday near Route 71 and Timbercreek Drive, the sheriff’s office said.

Three people were hospitalized after a two-car crash at 5:50 p.m. Friday near Route 71 and Millbrook Road, the sheriff’s office said. Shirley Riley, 51, 2600 block of East 20th Road, Serena, and two 16-year-old girls were taken to Valley West Hospital in Sandwich, but condition reports were not available. One of the girls was charged with failure to yield at a stop sign.

Oswego

One person was injured in a four-car crash Friday near Route 71 and Orchard Road, police said. Robert Bennett, 48, 600 block of Binder Street, Aurora, was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center, but a condition report was not available. William Aichele, 51, 400 block of West Judson Street, Coal City, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said.

About $4,500 worth of items were taken from the Pineridge Condo Association, 401 Pineridge Drive, Oswego, sometime before 7:45 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Andres Alonso, 19, 900 block of Gates Street, Aurora, was charged with aggravated resisting arrest, aggravated battery to a police officer, obstructing a peace officer, retail theft and suspended license at 2:21 a.m. Sunday in the 2300 block of Route 34, police said.

Plano

Police said there were numerous reports of burglaries to unlocked cars last week. In all of the cases, drivers left the car unlocked and left personal items in plain view, police said. Police remind drivers to lock their doors and store or take valuables when they leave. Anyone with information on the burglaries is asked to Plano police at 630-552-3121.

Anna Schultz, 32, 3000 block of Alyssa Street, Plano, was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center after a two-car crash at 7:36 a.m. Saturday near Route 34 and Lakewood Springs Drive, police said. A condition report was not available. The other driver was not injured.
