No posting means no Montgomery meeting

Business in the village of Montgomery was halted Monday night after a posted agenda was not found on the bulletin board at Village Hall.
“I am not going to take the chance. We don’t want it to be challenged,” said Mayor Marilyn Michelini.
Village attorney Pete Wilson agreed and said that under the Illinois Open Meeting Act the agenda must be posted 48 hours before a meeting.
A listing of scheduled meetings for the fiscal year must be posted outside the building where the governing body meets. That list is posted, but agendas for both the Intergovernmental Committee and Village Board were not, causing both to be postponed.
The agenda included a police department request to buy a new radio repeater after one failed Sept. 6, leaving the frequency used by officers unavailable. It caused no public emergency, but the cost of just over $22,000 requires board approval.
Also, Tom Muth with the Fox Metro Water Reclamation District was scheduled to respond to odor complaints.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the committee and the board is Oct. 8.
