Police searching for band of clothing thieves

Police are investigating the theft of $4,000 worth of jeans and shirts from a store at the Aurora Premium Outlets mall Tuesday morning.

According to the police, four men came into the store soon after it opened and began looking at jeans. After the men had been in the store for about four minutes, they grabbed handfuls of clothes and ran out, police said. The men were seen fleeing in a white Chevrolet Malibu, police said.

Employees estimated that the men grabbed 35 to 40 pieces of clothing from the store.


Farnsworth Avenue between Molitor and Bilter Roads was shut down in both directions Wednesday afternoon because of a gas leak caused by construction crews. Police asked motorists to avoid exiting I-88 at Farnsworth Avenue. There were no injuries as a result of the leak, according to city staff.

Jose Mendoza-Sosa, 44, 300 block of Spring Street, Aurora, was charged with felonies aggravated criminal sexual abuse, criminal sexual abuse and criminal sexual assault at 6:45 p.m. Sunday at his home, police said.

Floronda Fletcher, 40, 4200 block of West Maple Avenue, Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft at 2 a.m. Monday in the 800 block of North Route 59, police said.

John Reyes Jr. was taken to Provena Mercy Medical Center after he was involved in a two-car crash at 8:14 p.m. Monday near Indian Trail and Mitchell Road, police said. Reyes told officers he was on his way to the hospital when the accident occurred, police said. He was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. No condition report was available. Police did not provide Reyes’ age or address.
