CAMPTON TWP. — One man was killed and two others were injured early today when the car they were riding in left a road here and struck a truck, Kane County Sheriff’s Police said.
According to reports, the three were in a 2007 Nissan Altima traveling west on Empire Road near Kings Wood Road at a high rate of speed shortly after midnight when it went off the road for an unknown reason and ran into the tree.
The driver of the car, Dustin Jordan, 24, of Hoffman Estates, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The front seat passenger, Eric Wiechart, 24, of Carol Stream, was airlifted by a Life Star helicopter to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with potential life threatening injuries. A rear seat passenger, Vetalik Lord, 25, of St. Charles, was transported to Delnor Hospital in Geneva, sheriff’s police said. There was no immediate condition report available on them.
Sheriff’s Lt. Pat Gengler said in a press release that investigators “have not ruled that alcohol played a role in this crash.”
Sheriff’s detectives and members of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team were continuing to investigate the crash. Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by Campton Hills police and the Kane County Office of Emergency management at the scene, the release said.
