The Kane County Board Tuesday approved hiring an outside consulting firm and giving pay raises to two finance department accountants, to deal with the resignation of the county finance director.
The county will contract with the accounting firm of Werner, Rogers, Doran & Ruzon LLC for financial projections and levies. The firm will not be involved in the budgeting process.
“It was felt that this would cost us less in the long run, and we would get more efficiency,” Finance Committee Chairman Jim Mitchell said.
Two finance department accountants will receive an $800 a month stipend in addition to their current salaries to assist in drafting the 2013 county budget, which will take shape in the coming months.
During the public comment period at Tuesday’s board meeting, a member of the public asked why the county does not continue to utilize their services instead of replacing Finance Director Cheryl Patelli, who resigned last month.
“Neither one could perform the full duties of the finance director,” Mitchell said.
