Anthony A. Reyes was apparently hoping for a little relief after a long day at work.

He might soon be spending a long day — or two — in court.

Reyes, 21, lives on the 900 block of Jungles Avenue in Aurora.

He surrendered to authorities late Tuesday afternoon, and faces trial on a misdemeanor charge of attempted disorderly conduct/filing a false crime report with Naperville police.

Patrol officers were called about 2:21 a.m. June 12 to North Aurora Road and Fairway Drive, in a mixed commercial and residential area of Naperville’s far northwest side.

They went there to investigate what police Sgt. Gregg Bell said was originally reported as “an unknown problem.”

Police “later learned Reyes was reportedly robbed at knifepoint of an iPod and headphones,” Bell said Thursday in an e-mail.

Police and a K-9 unit searched the area, but were unable to find “the alleged male black offenders” Reyes claimed had robbed him, Bell said.

Detectives were subsequently assigned to the case and “additional information was gathered, leading investigators to doubt (the) original version of events,” Bell said.

“After Reyes was interviewed, it was learned the incident never occurred,” Bell said. “Investigators learned Reyes actually just wanted a ride home ... after a long day at work.”

A map indicated Reyes’ home is about five miles due west of the intersection of North Aurora Road and Fairway Drive.

An examination of DuPage County and Will County court documents indicated Reyes has no criminal record.

Reyes is free on bail. His arraignment date in DuPage County Circuit Court in Wheaton is pending.
