Park Briefs: District offers passes for fitness centers

AURORA

Fall into Fitness: The Fox Valley Park District throughout the month of September is offering a free seven-day pass to any of the district’s three fitness centers: Eola Community Center, 555 S. Eola Road; Prisco Community Center, 150 W. Illinois Ave.; and the Vaughan Athletic Center, 2121 W. Indian Trail. The offer is available to guests age 16 and older. Geneva

Outdoor classroom: The Kane County Forest Preserve District offers a variety of hands-on environmental education programs. Field trips may be conducted at any of the county’s forest preserves all the year. These programs are free of charge for Kane County schools. For out-of-county schools, there is a fee of $25 per class. Preschools are charged the community group rate of $2 per child with a minimum of $20. Oswego

Swimming at YMCA: The Oswego YMCA offers swim lessons for ages 6 months through 12 years old at its Aquatic Center at Pine Ridge Club. The next fall session begins Sept. 6 and registration is ongoing. Contact Melissa Johnson at mjohnson@ymcachicago.org or register at www.oswegofamilyymca.org.

Co-ed soccer league: Register by Sept. 8 for Oswego Family YMCA soccer leagues for children pre-kindergarten (4 years old) through sixth grade. Activities for preschoolers: The Oswego YMCA fall session that begins Sept, 6 includes preschool and school-level classes such as: fundamentals of preschool, my first sports, little kickers/dribblers/setters, fundamentals of sports, instructional youth floor hockey and gymnastics. Girls basketball feeder league: The Oswego YMCA girls feeder league will host tryouts at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 for Oswego East High School and Oswego High School girls grades six to seven. The league is designed to prepare girls for high school-level competition. Practice will be twice a week with games played on Sundays starting in November. The cost is $283 per player, which includes a 20-game schedule, practice twice a week, jersey and shorts.
