Business briefs: New leader for Aurora bureau

Aurora
New executive director: The Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau hired Chris Hamilton as its new executive director effective Aug. 24. Hamilton served as the executive director of the Lebanon, Ky., Tourist and Convention Commission since 2005, winning awards and accolades. Hamilton replaces AACVB’s long-time CEO/President Sue Vos, who retired June 30. The CVB chose Hamilton from a pool of almost 190 nationwide applicants. The AACVB is a not-for-profit five-person bureau that serves as the tourism marketing and management organization for Aurora, Batavia, Big Rock, Hinckley, North Aurora, Montgomery, Plano, Sandwich, Sugar Grove and Yorkville.

Waubonsee to host job fair: The 10th annual Working for the Fox Valley Job Fair is from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 16 in the Academic and Professional Center of Waubonsee Community College, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive. Montgomery
The Conservation Foundation: Oswego resident and former County Board Chairman John Church will lead the new Land Conservation Initiative for the Lower Fox River. This project will develop a long-term land conservation and protection plan for the lower Fox River in Kendall and LaSalle counties. This plan will be completed by June 2012 and is funded primarily from an Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation grant.
Oswego
Oswego Family YMCA new staff: Nikki Ryan has joined the Oswego Family YMCA staff as administrative assistant/special events coordinator. Ryan most recently worked at the Oswego Economic Development Corporation where she was the customer relations manager. Nikki will be assisting Executive Director Brent Finlay in the planning and execution of several events.
