Sensible Threadz is a new discount retail store at 208 S. Kirk Road in St. Charles. Carol Frey opened the doors in November after getting out of the mortgage business after 15 years.

“It became so stressful. Now I am back to who I am,” said Frey, who also runs an online eBay store. She noticed that there is a lack of discount stores in the area and saw the desire for quality merchandise at a reasonable price, especially for children’s clothing.

At the store, Frey offers discounted new, name-brand clothing for infant through junior girl sizes, along with new, high-end name-brand bedding and bath items. Specialty handmade organic soaps, decorative, made-to-order pillows and runners, and soon to be added one-of-a-kind jewelry and greeting cards are also available.

Sensible Threadz also offers resale limited to junior girls, accepting gently used name-brand clothing. All new items within the store are 50 to 80 percent off of retail.

Frey welcomes customers to shop her eBay store, Carol’s Closet of Values, for men’s clothing and school uniforms and pick up items at her store. She also offers eBay trading assistance, personal shopping services and steaming services.

Sensible Threadz picks a charity to sponsor each month. Northern Illinois Food Bank is the January charity, and a $5-off coupon will be given for every five items of nonperishable food donated.

Contact the store at 630-587-0736 for more information. Store hours are 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays. Find Sensible Threadz at www.sensiblethreadz.com; on Facebook; and on Twitter, @SensibleThreadz.

New digs

Jane Pabon is redefining consignment in Geneva. Pabon moved her boutique store, also called Jane Pabon, to 220 S. Third St. from St. Charles in September.

Jane Pabon, the store, is a high-end consignment shop that specializes in the “what to wear” of fashion. Pabon, of St. Charles, calls the store an “eclectic boutique.”

“We have a big array of things,” said Pabon, who opened the store in 2009 to showcase “new, gently used and vintage items by noted designers at affordable prices.” Pabon says fashion is her passion; she helped open Ann Taylor on Chicago’s Michigan Avenue and worked for Marshall Field’s at Woodfield Mall.

Pabon partnered with manager Christina Stammen to bring the store to Geneva and expand its size and offerings. Stammen reworks vintage jewelry into stunning wearable pieces, and Pabon acts as a personal fashion stylist and personal shopper.

Look to Jane Pabon to find upscale brands like Dolce and Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Armani and more. The store offers a range of styles, from casual looks by J. Crew to evening dresses by Lillie Rubin. “We focus on quality,” Pabon said.

New to the store is Christina’s Closet, a clothing boutique downstairs from Jane Pabon, where women in need can peruse through clothing that would otherwise be donated. “We’ll help them create outfits, and they can take what they need,” she said.

Jane Pabon is online at www.janepabon.net and on Facebook. Contact Pabon at 630-208-4888 for personal styling, closet consultations and more. Consignments are taken at the store on Tuesday and Friday.

New name – same game

They’re no fools. Noble Fool Theatricals is now Fox Valley Repertory — a name that they say represents the community around which they have grown their mission, vision, patron base and academy students.

Fox Valley Repertory is in its seventh year as the professional, nonprofit theater company in residence at Pheasant Run Resort. Artistic Director John Gawlik said, “We are focused on creating an engaging theater experience by producing shows that inspire our community to laugh, reflect and reconnect to moments in one’s life.”

The public is invited to a ribbon-cutting event at 4 p.m. Jan. 25 in the Mainstage Theater, 4051 E. Main St., St. Charles. The event is free and will include a mini-performance by Fox Valley Repertory’s inaugural production, “Leaving Iowa,” about recounting family vacations.
