More beer gardens sprouting in Yorkville

Updated: August 13, 2013 6:15AM

YORKVILLE — Warm weather is here, and everyone wants to sit outside to enjoy summer drinks.

That definitely seems to be the attitude in Yorkville, where the city has gotten four applications for new beer garden type facilities.

This week, the City Council approved removing the cap it had on the number of beer gardens allowed in town, paving the way for the city to quickly approve the four license requests.

They are from Mongolian 211 restaurant, Mike and Denise’s, Stonefire restaurant and Yorkville Bowl.

Until earlier this week, the city had a cap on outdoor beer garden or patio licenses of nine, and had already approved six. If the cap remained, only three of the four beer garden licenses could be approved.

Officials seemed to agree that removing the cap would be beneficial to existing businesses, and an incentive to new restaurants to locate in the city.

A beer garden license, known as a Class G, is on top of a normal liquor license.

Beer gardens or patios also are subject to the city’s building code regulations.
