Tamales are coming to downtown Aurora. Ever since the paper-covered windows at 31 N. Broadway announced that a tamale factory was coming soon, locals have been salivating in anticipation.
Victor Soberanis is certain that tamales will be well received at the location. Along the way though, Soberanis, a restaurateur from Chicago, decided that so would hot wings, pancakes, burgers and fajitas.
So what would have been a wholesale tamale shop will now be Hot Pechugas, a Tex-Mex restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Soberanis, who has plans to move to Aurora, will open Hot Pechugas on Jan. 26 and hopes to host a grand opening in February.
Hot Pechugas will open early at 6 a.m. and close at midnight, Soberanis said. He added that he wants to cater to the locals with Mexican and American food throughout the day. Sobernais said that “pechugas” translates to “chicken breast.”
Hot Pechugas could even be a mini-version of the popular American sports bar Hooters with waitresses clad in “sexy tops and pants,” as the website states. A liquor license for the restaurant is pending city approval.

Julio’s Grill, 1 N. Broadway, Aurora, is now Taqueria Arandense. New owners Antonio and Carolina Gonzalez recently took over the diner at the northeast corner of Broadway and Galena Boulevard.
The couple serves Mexican food seven days a week and offer specialties like beef stew and pozole.
Taqueria Arandense opens daily at 10 a.m.
Munchy’s General Market is open on the ground floor of the Keystone Building on Stolp Avenue in downtown Aurora.
A combination mini-mart and resale shop, Munchy’s has no hours posted, but a Facebook page for “Munchy’s Mini Mart,” 9 S. Stolp Ave., lists hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
