HINCKLEY — Police Chief David Walker Sr. announced Friday that he will retire after 15 years as the head of the Hinckley Police Department.
The village will host a retirement celebration for Walker at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 at Village Hall, 720 James St.
Village President Dan Godhardt said Walker exhibited professionalism during his years of service to the village.
“I regretfully accept his resignation and I am looking forward to a good transition to a new chief of police,” Godhardt said.
“The village has benefitted greatly from Chief Walker’s leadership over the last 15 years and I look forward to the chief’s continued involvement with the community as he goes into this next stage of life.”
Walker will stay on to oversee the transition to a new police chief.
Before joining the Hinckley department, Walker served 24 years with the Dolton Police, including three years as assistant chief. Walker was selected from 40 candidates for the Hinckley chief position in 1998.
Walker could not be reached for comment Friday.
