Construction on Orchard Road from Jericho Road to Route 30 begins Monday in the Aurora-Montgomery area. The first stage of the project will involve temporary widening of Orchard at Aucutt Road.
The entire project will span two construction seasons and is anticipated to be complete by November 2012, the Kane County Transportation Department said.
The scope of the project includes widening Orchard Road to two through lanes in each direction, new traffic signals, improved lighting at the intersections with Aucutt and Rochester roads, new storm sewers and detention ponds, a new concrete drainage culvert and an extension of the Jericho shared-use path.
One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained throughout the project, officials said.
Work this year will concentrate on constructing the new southbound lanes on Orchard as well as storm sewer relocation, pond excavation and the installation of a new box culvert.
