A Kendall County Sheriff’s Department deputy is on unpaid leave after being charged with allegedly having sex with a female inmate.
According to Kendall County court records, Timothy Brennan, 41, of Channahon, was working in the department’s correction division when he allegedly had ongoing sexual contact with a female inmate from Nov. 25 to Dec. 6 of last year.
Court records show the inmate was in the custody of the Kendall County Jail when the sexual misconduct occurred.
Kendall County Sheriff Richard Randall said Brennan is on unpaid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
“I take my responsibility very seriously to not only house inmates securely, but also to provide for their safety,” Randall said.
“While all individuals charged with a crime have a right to due process under the law, I will not tolerate unlawful or unethical conduct by any employee of the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.”
The department cooperated with Illinois State Police to conduct the investigation after allegations that Brennan had engaged in sexual contact with the inmate were brought to light. Police do not believe there was a force of threat involved.
“Both Illinois law and Sheriff’s Office policy clearly prohibit the alleged conduct and our employees know this,” Randall said.
Brennan was charged with custodial sexual misconduct, a Class 3 felony. His bond was set at $40,000, court records show.
His next court date is set for March 3.
