More than $3,000 worth of instruments and musical equipment were stolen from Calvary Church on the border of Aurora in February, and listed for sale on Craigslist this week, police said.
Two men reported that the theft occurred sometime between 5 and 10 p.m. on Feb. 9, but was not reported until Wednesday because they thought someone in the congregation might have borrowed the instruments to use.
After asking around, the men determined that the items had likely been stolen.
That conclusion became more apparent on Wednesday when one of the victims discovered a stolen guitar and amplifier for sale on Craigslist. At that time, the men reported the theft to police.
Police said a black Fender Stratacaster, a microphone, amplifier and beat machine, worth $3,200, were taken from the Youth Department room at Calvary Church, 1100 block of S. Route 59 in Naperville.
The items had apparently been pawned at Naperville Jewelry and Loan, and listed for sale on Craigslist, police said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
