Oswego police closed a portion of Douglas Road late Wednesday afternoon, following a gas line break in the area.
Oswego Police Capt. Jeff Burgner said he expects Douglas Road, from Route 34 to Barnaby Drive, to remain closed until at least 9 p.m. as Nicor workers get the leak under control.
“The Nicor workers are on foot with their meters checking to make sure everything is safe,” Burgner said.
However, residents who smell gas in their home or have other concerns should contact Nicor at 888-642-6748 and have a worker come check the property to ensure safety.
Burgner said if there is a concern, residents should evacuate the residence.
“So far, the Nicor workers haven’t picked up any dangerous levels in their readings,” Burgner said. “There is a nice breeze blowing right now.”
