Aurora woman pleads not guilty to sex abuse of female juvenile

Updated: March 27, 2014 6:35AM

A 25-year-old Aurora woman has pleaded not guilty to sexually abusing a female juvenile she knew, according to Kane County court records.

Marcela Lopez, 500 block of Florida Avenue, was charged in August with four counts of felony criminal sexual abuse of a victim between the ages of 13 and 17 years old.

She pleaded not guilty during her arraignment earlier this month. Lopez is due back in court on Thursday.

According to prosecutors, it is uncommon but not unique to have a female defendant be charged with the sexual abuse of a minor female. Lopez was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Court records show the abuse allegedly happened between August 2012 and August 2013, but because the investigation is ongoing, prosecutors would not comment on the case.

An order of protection was filed against Lopez last summer by the father of the victim involved in the case. Allegations of harassment by Lopez resulted in a judge approving the order, which remains in effect until August 2015.

Lopez’s bail was set at $25,000, and she has been ordered to have no contact with the minor victim, court records show. A bond reduction motion filed by Lopez was denied.
