Police: Aurora man bribed officer to avoid DUI charge

Updated: February 21, 2014 1:27PM

A routine drunken driving stop ended in felony charges being filed against a 21-year-old Aurora man, after he allegedly attempted to bribe an officer to not charge him in the incident.

According to Kane County court records, George McGoldrick, 1800 block of Tall Oaks Drive, was stopped by an Aurora police officer at 4:33 a.m. on Feb. 14 in the 1800 block of Church Road.

He was subsequently charged with drunken driving, improper lane usage and having no insurance. Charges against McGoldrick would have ended there, but court records claim that McGoldrick then offered the arresting officer $500 to let him walk away without filing criminal charges. The officer declined.

McGoldrick was charged with bribery, a Class 3 felony.
