An Aurora man was held on a $75,000 bond Thursday after being arrested for traveling to a Cook County convenience story to meet who he thought was a 13-year-old girl for sex.
John E. Jones, 44, was charged with traveling to meet a minor and indecent solicitation of a child, both felonies, after the “girl” turned out to be a cop, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.
After Jones responded to a Craigslist posting Dec. 11, 2013, he repeatedly had sexually explicit conversations with a supposed 13-year-old girl named “Tina,” prosecutors claim.
He discussed detailed sex acts and said he wanted to “take the girl’s virginity,” all while acknowledging she was underage, a statement from prosecutors said.
He arranged to meet the girl, but when he went to a 7-Eleven in Schiller Park on Feb. 5, Schiller Park police were there to arrest him, prosecutors said.
On Thursday, Judge Jill Cerone-Merisie ordered Jones held on a $75,000 bond, authorities said. He will next appear in court March 6 in Rolling Meadows.
The Cook County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigated the case.
