West Aurora slated to announce new superintendent Monday

Updated: February 2, 2014 12:34PM

AURORA — The West Aurora School Board is slated to appoint a new superintendent Monday.

According to an agenda posted Friday afternoon, the School Board will meet in executive session during its regularly scheduled meeting and then take potential action to appoint a new superintendent.

James Rydland, the district’s current superintendent, announced in June 2013 that he would retire from his post in June 2014, with three years left on his contract. Rydland has led the district since 2005.

West Aurora has been working with a search firm since July to gauge what the community was looking for in a new district leader and to recruit candidates. The search firm helped the district conduct public forums and focus groups and solicited input through an online survey.

The search firm said it found the West Aurora community wanted a superintendent with a high level of financial expertise and experience working in a large, diverse school system who could build partnerships.

West Aurora School Board members met in four special executive sessions as they prepared to make their final decision over the last two months.

The East Aurora School Board also is expected to announce its choice for a new superintendent on Monday.
