A Rochelle woman has been charged with felony arson after allegedly setting her ex-boyfriend’s car on fire during an argument over infidelity, Aurora police said.
Police said Otilia De La Torre, 53, had gotten into a verbal fight with an ex-boyfriend inside his van on Tuesday morning in the 1200 block of Lake Street in Aurora.
The man said the fight turned physical, and he eventually walked away from the vehicle, leaving De La Torre inside.
Shortly after, police said De La Torre poured flammable fluid inside the vehicle, and set the van on fire while she was seated inside.
She fled the scene in a separate vehicle, police said. A witness followed the woman toward Batavia, where she was eventually stopped by Batavia police. She was taken to an area hospital where she was treated for injuries from the fire.
Around 11:13 a.m. Tuesday, De La Torre, 300 block of Southview Drive, was charged with arson, felony criminal damage to property, and two counts of misdemeanor battery at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva, police said.
