Girl, 4, dies after TV set falls on her in Aurora

Updated: March 3, 2014 12:26PM

Kane County Coroner’s officials said late Monday that a 4-year-old Aurora girl’s death was likely caused by head injuries she sustained from a falling television.

The young girl was identified as Cyliyah Yarbrough, 4, of the 1200 block of Nantucket Road, Aurora, according to Kane County Coroner Rob Russell.

At 6:43 p.m. Sunday, Kane County Coroner’s deputies were called to Presence Mercy Medical Center following an emergency room death.

An autopsy was performed Monday and the preliminary cause of death was determined to be cranial-cerebral injuries due to a falling television.

Aurora police were called by the girl’s mother at about 5:49 p.m. to an apartment in the 1200 block of Nantucket Avenue, after a television fell off of a stand onto the girl. She was taken by Aurora Fire Department paramedics to Presence Mercy Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 6:34 p.m.

As of Sunday, the police investigation indicated that the girl’s death was accidental. At the time of the accident the home was occupied by the victim, the mother and a younger sibling.

The Kane County Coroner’s office is cooperating with all police and fire agencies in their ongoing investigation of the incident, Russell said.
