Aurora police are looking for witnesses to a fatal crash that claimed the life of an 81-year-old Aurora woman at around 12:30 p.m. Saturday on the city’s Far East Side.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the woman, whose name is being withheld until family can be notified, was driving a 2006 Honda Civic northbound on Eola Road when she apparently attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Bilter Road, police said. Her vehicle was then struck by a 2014 Acura SUV that was southbound on Eola.
The force of the crash sent the SUV into a Honda Odyssey minivan that was facing eastbound and stopped at the light at Bilter.
The woman was the sole occupant of her vehicle. She was taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The SUV was driven by a 39-year-old man from Long Grove who had his 7-year-old daughter as a passenger. Both were treated and released at the scene of the crash.
The Honda Odyssey was occupied by two adult females and four children, none of whom were injured. Their ages and hometowns were not immediately available.
The investigation into the crash is continuing. Anyone who may have witnessed it is asked to call Aurora police traffic investigators at 630-256-5330.
An autopsy on the woman is pending at the Kane County Coroner’s Office.
