Motorists are being urged to use caution as the rain and freezing rain currently falling in the Aurora area is causing slippery roadways throughout the area, Aurora officials said.
Currently, hills and bridges are especially slick, officials said.
The city of Aurora has dispatched its full fleet of 34 trucks to salt the approximately 2,100 lane miles of roads in Aurora. The trucks include both city crews and those contracted by the city. Drivers will concentrate first on primary roads especially during the rush hour and then address residential streets.
Motorists are asked to slow down, drive defensively, and allow extra space between vehicles. They are also urged to be especially cautious when interacting with snow plows, staying a minimum of 75 feet behind the trucks and never attempting to pass them.
