Burglars target unlocked cars in St. Charles

Updated: February 8, 2014 6:15AM

St. Charles police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles, following a rash of burglaries that occurred throughout the city last week.

Police responded to six calls for motor vehicle burglaries on Jan. 1 and 2. The burglaries occurred during the late evening and early morning hours. Four of the incidents occurred on McKinley Street and Jewel Avenue, police said.

One incident each was reported on South 13th Avenue and Lucyclle Avenue.

Police said all of the targeted vehicles were left unlocked by the owners.

Police are warning residents to keep valuables out of view, or remove them from vehicles entirely. It is important to keep vehicles locked.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call St. Charles Police at 630-377-4435, or to leave a tip on the city of St. Charles website under the Drug and Crime Tip Line.
