A man from Oswego was killed after a Thursday night home invasion on the West Side of Chicago.
Two men knocked on the door of a residence about 8:15 p.m. in the 1600 block of South Central Park Avenue looking for a girl inside, Chicago police said.
Elijah Johnson, 50, of Oswego, answered the door and got into a physical struggle when the two suspects tried to force their way inside, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Police said one of the suspects then shot Johnson in the chest before they fled the scene on foot.
Johnson, of the 400 block of Stonewater Lane in Oswego, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead later that night, the medical examiner’s office said. No one is in custody and the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
