An Aurora man was killed Friday evening in a two-car crash on Route 30 in Oswego.

Jarred X. Harrell, 21, of Aurora, was killed while riding in one of the vehicles involved in the wreck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle Jarred was in, Janella Harrell, 24, of Aurora, was transported to Rush-Copley Hospital in Aurora for treatment. The driver of the other vehicle, Stephen P. Pierce, 61, of North Aurora, was treated at Rush-Copley for injuries and released.

According to Oswego police, the accident happened at about 6:37 p.m. on Route 30 just east of Fifth Street. Police said the vehicle traveling east on Route 30 driven by Janella Harrell crossed the center line and was hit by the vehicle driven by Pierce, which was westbound.

Dozens of squad cars and emergency vehicles responded, and life-saving efforts were underway for an extended period. The roof was pulled off at least one of the vehicles.

Route 30 in that area was closed for hours following the crash, police said.

The crash is currently under investigation by Oswego police. Officials said there is no indication of impaired driving by any of the drivers involved in the wreck.
