Updated: January 14, 2014 12:55PM

A 25-year-old Naperville man sustained critical injuries after he was shot around 5 p.m. Wednesday on Aurora’s East Side.

Police said the shooting occurred near Hill Avenue and North Avenue.

Investigators believe the victim was talking to someone in a green Oldsmobile at the intersection of Hill and North Avenue, when someone from inside the car apparently shot a weapon. The car, described as being in “beater” condition, fled the scene headed southbound, police said.

The victim walked a short distance from the scene before he collapsed as a result of a wound to the abdomen, police said.

Aurora Fire Department paramedics took the man to an area hospital where he was treated. Police said he is expected to survive.

Aurora Police Department evidence technicians processed the scene, and the shooting remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Aurora Police investigators at 630-256-5500, or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to any arrests.
