Flurry of minor crashes amid afternoon snowfall

Police and fire departments reported many minor snow-related car crashes Sunday as a result of the afternoon’s snowfall but no major incidents as of early evening. Roads during the early evening were snow-covered and slippery on various neighborhood streets in Aurora, Batavia and Geneva and on Routes 25 and 31. Salt and plow crews were out, but driving conditions remained difficult for a while.
A Baby Jesus was stolen from a Christmas Nativity scene in the front yard of a house in the 300 block of Douglas Road on the city’s East Side. Batavia police said the Baby Jesus was one of three residential holiday decorations tampered with in recent days. A Snoopy Santa and a custom-made plywood base were stolen and other decorations were knocked down in the 1400 block of Lundburg Avenue. And a plywood Nativity manger was stolen from a front yard in the 1300 block of North Washington Avenue. Total loss was estimated at $200.
Ashley L. Watson, 28, of the 800 block of Howell Drive, Geneva, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and improper lane usage Dec. 3 in the 800 block of North Kirk Road, Geneva police said.
