Seize the Future announces new team in Aurora

AURORA — Seize the Future, the non-profit tasked with spurring economic development in the city, has hired four new staff members, officials announced this week.
About a month after CEO David Hulseberg joined Seize the Future, the agency has hired the rest of its team: Patrick Burke will serve as Seize the Future’s senior development officer; Ashley Sarver, development coordinator; Catherine Stieg, communications coordinator; Moraima Ramos, administrative coordinator.
Hulseberg said the new team will support the agency’s efforts to help existing businesses thrive and bring new business to Aurora.
“This is a very talented and passionate team,” Hulseberg said.
Burke previously spent nine years as economic development manager of the City of Moline. During that time, Burke was responsible for the development on mixed-use downtown projects, new retail along major retail corridors and Moline’s first business park, according to Stieg. Burke also assisted in securing funds for community development projects and downtown streetscape project, as well as establishing the Moline Downtown Commercial Historical District.
Sarver comes to Seize the Future from the Village of Tinley Park, where she worked as a research and marketing associate in the economic development department.
At the village, Sarver researched development issues, assisted on feasibility studies for redevelopment sites and coordinated efforts with developers and consultants, Stieg said.
Sarver is fluent in Spanish.
For the last 15 years, Stieg has worked in communications and marketing roles with for-profit and non-profit organizations. Most recently, she served as director of business development at West Chicago-based Systems Guild, Inc.
Ramos, an Aurora native, previously worked for Old Second Bank. She is bilingual.
Sarver’s first day at Seize the Future was Tuesday. Burke will start Dec. 16.
Now that a full staff is on board, Hulseberg said he is currently prioritizing business retention visits and developing a strategic plan.
“We are looking forward to being full staffed and assisting the business community by encouraging economic development in the city,” he said.
