Officers from the Aurora Police Department’s Community Oriented Policing Unit conducted several registered sex offender compliance checks throughout the city on Halloween.
Officers went door to door ensuring that registered sex offenders’ data is up to date and reminding sex offenders of the restrictions placed on them during the Halloween holiday.
Illinois statutes prohibit registered sex offenders from being involved with Halloween in any way, whether it be dressing up in costumes, handing out candy, or walking with children trick-or-treating.
Officers made contact with 116 registered child sex offenders and registered sexual predators at more than 100 homes in Aurora. Six violations were observed and investigated, five for failure to report address changes and one for having non-familial minors present in the home.
