AURORA — Mayor Tom Weisner has selected Kristina “Tina” Bohman to serve as the next 1st Ward alderman, city officials announced late Thursday.
The appointment will now go to City Council for approval at a special council meeting scheduled to take place immediately following the Committee of the Whole meeting on Nov. 5.
If approved, Bohman will represent the 1st Ward at least until the next general election is held in April 2015.
Bohman, a former Aurora community resources coordinator, was one of eight candidates who applied to be appointed to the post.
Because former Alderman Abby Schuler, 1st Ward, resigned 18 months before the next 1st Ward general election, Weisner picked her replacement.
“Tina has a track record as someone who listens, communicates, and truly works with residents to make Aurora a better place to live,” Weisner said. “Her proven commitment and her long and varied experience will allow her to hit the ground running in this interim appointment.”
Bohman said she is happy to be selected by the mayor.
“I’m excited to have this opportunity. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” Bohman said.
“I love Aurora and I look forward to working with residents and the ward committee to continue to move forward on issues from economic growth along the Farnsworth corridor to working with the city and other entities on flooding prevention to maintaining and expanding the ward committee structure to ensure all the 1st Ward’s voices are heard.”
“This was by no means an easy decision,” Weisner stated. “There was a very strong field of candidates from the 1st Ward.”
