The opening ceremony for the Healing Field of more than 2,000 American Flags honoring all military veterans will be at 1 p.m., Sunday, just west of the West Aurora High School stadium on Plum Street.
The West Aurora High School Marching Band will provide music. Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner will speak, along with a representative of Healing Field sponsor Old Second Bank and a local veteran.
“This Healing Field is dedicated to the veterans who gave their lives for our great country, to the families of those veterans for having made the supreme sacrifice and to all veterans for serving with honor during peace and war,” said Rudy Keller, former West High co-principal who is spearheading this event.
The flags will fly from Nov. 3 to 13 and then given to their sponsors.
