A couple in Montgomery were jarred out of bed early Friday after a driver crashed a car into the side of their garage and then nose-dived the vehicle into a nearby pond.
Homeowner Andrea Schmidt said that her dogs woke her up after the crash, which happened about 1 a.m. in the 100 block of Pine Ridge Lane.
Schmidt knew something wasn’t right when she saw lights out in her pond. She then walked out to the pond and saw that a later model Chrysler was nose-first in the water.
The driver, who was unconscious at first, told Schmidt that he had been drinking before the crash, Schmidt said.
The driver of the car, Eric Vazquez, 22, 100 block of Maple Ridge Lane, Montgomery, was charged with drunken driving, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and improper lane usage. He was released after posting bond, police said.
“Everybody’s safe, the dogs are fine, my husband is fine, the house is, y’know, rebuildable,” Schmidt told the reporter while standing outside her home.
Fire crews towed the car out of the pond.
Vazquez was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 27 in St. Charles.
