One person was killed and another was injured when a car hit a tree early Wednesday in Batavia.
The 1990 Mercedes Benz was heading north in the 600 block of South River Street (Route 25) a few minutes before 1 a.m. when the car started to go off the road and the driver overcorrected, Batavia Police Det. Sgt. Shawn Mazza said.
The car went off the other side of the road and hit a tree, ejecting both people inside the car, Mazza said.
Both were taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, where one of the people died, Mazza said. Police are still unsure which of the two occupants was the driver.
The identity of the person killed was not released pending notification of relatives. Mazza said it was not yet clear if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
Batavia police are investigating the crash.
