Names and red roses now adorn three crosses placed near the scene of a triple-fatal crash that happened late Sunday evening in Aurora.
Police have identified the victims as Oscar Rodriguez, 28, 600 block of Iowa Avenue, Aurora, the sole occupant of his vehicle, and Andrea Moyotl, 77, and Rosa Cuanetl, 57, both of the 1300 block of Hinckley Street in Montgomery. Moyotl and Cuanetl were riding with five family members in a minivan when it collided head-on with Rodriguez’s vehicle near Broadway Avenue and Hazel Avenue around 11:49 p.m. Sunday.
An accident report shows that the van’s driver, Juanita Moyotl, 17, also of the 1300 block of Hinckley Street, was transported to a Geneva hospital, and then transferred to a suburban Chicago hospital, police said.
A 10-year-old male passenger in the van was treated at an Aurora hospital, then airlifted to a suburban Chicago hospital.
Three other male van passengers, ages 9, 12 and 40, were transported to an Aurora hospital, police said.
Police said injuries sustained by everyone involved in the crash have prevented them from making statements about what occurred that evening. A police report showed that Rodriguez was apparently traveling north on Broadway when he entered the southbound lane, striking the van driven by Juanita Moyotl.
Police have not determined if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
At the scene of the crash, loved ones have taken to writing messages on the three, white crosses.
“Daddy, we miss you so much,” someone scrawled in black marker on the cross bearing Oscar’s name.
Aurora police are asking anyone with information or anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call traffic investigators at 630-256-5330.
