A motorist is dead after a crash Monday in Maple Park.
Shanay Martin was driving a 2000 Mercury Marquis west on Route 38, just east of Watson Road at 11:50 a.m. when he approached a line of stopped cars waiting for another vehicle to turn south onto Watson Road, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s office.
Martin attempted to avoid striking the rear of the last stopped car and crossed into oncoming traffic where the Mercury was struck by a 1987 Chevrolet pickup truck traveling east on Route 38, according to the sheriff’s office.
Martin, 32, of Cortland, was pronounced dead at Delnor Hospital in Geneva, the sheriff’s office said. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 35-year-old Maple Park man, was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The Kane County Sheriff’s office is investigating the crash.
