Oswego Trustees on Tuesday unanimously appointed a new employee who will act as assistant village administrator and human resources director.
Christina Burns, a former journalist, comes to Oswego with government experience, most recently as assistant to the village manager of Clarendon Hills since 2010. Burns previously worked two years in Glen Ellyn as an administrator and planning intern. She will begin her new duties Oct. 28.
Village Administrator Steve Jones said the village received 87 applications for the position and an administrative review team narrowed the list to five candidates.
Two finalists were recommended after a round of interviews, with Burns at the top as the most qualified for the position, he said.
“Christina comes with a range of municipal experience in budget planning, economic development, grant writing and community relations,” Jones said. “She knows the field and has a broad range of experience. Her management style will be a good fit for our management team.”
Jones said the village’s human resources manager position was restructured when the position was vacated, with input from the previous human relations manager. “We both felt the position could have a broader scope of responsibilities,” Jones said.
Burns has a master’s degree in public administration from Northern Illinois University. She previously worked in journalism at the Naperville Sun and St. Joseph News-Press in Missouri. She will be paid a salary of $85,000 plus benefits.
