A Naperville woman died after she was struck while riding her bicycle Wednesday morning on the city’s northeast side.
Police said Shwu-Wei Yeh, 56, who lived in the 900 block of Amberwood Circle, passed away after she was taken to Edward Hospital for treatment of injuries she sustained in the 7:25 a.m. accident.
Naperville Police Department spokesman Sgt. Lou Cammiso said an initial investigation indicated Yeh was hit by a 2006 gray Nissan Titan pickup that was headed east on Diehl Road as she was trying to cross the street on the east side of its intersection with Freedom Drive. Cammiso said the driver, a 35-year-old Aurora man whose name has not yet been released, was not able to provide much additional information.
“He just felt like he hit somebody. He didn’t see anyone,” he said.
The investigation continued Thursday morning, and the driver had not yet been cited.
“Obviously that’s a possibility,” Cammiso said.
The accident was one of two in which bicyclists were hurt Wednesday morning during rush-hour incidents in the city. The other, involving a Neuqua Valley High School student, was far less serious. That accident, which happened about 7:15 a.m., involved a 14-year-old Neuqua student. He was taken to Edward Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and had been released by about 9 a.m., according to Cammiso.
