Liquor sales are in the spotlight in the village of Montgomery.
Recently, the Village Board denied a request to open a “high-end wine and spirit” shop in Montgomery.
Munir Rafidia had asked for a liquor license to open his facility at 1550 Douglas Road in the Montgomery Plaza Shopping Center.
“We have enough liquor stores in the village and we don’t need any more, especially in that area. You are going to run the other businesses out,” said Trustee Pete Heinz.
Trustee Denny Lee agreed with Heinz on the issue
“In Montgomery we have enough places for everyone to buy liquor and I am not sure the residents need more liquor stores,” Lee said.
Trustees on Monday will also look at liquor sale hours in the village. The issue has arisen because recently, a special designation was approved for VFW Post 7452 to begin selling alcohol at 10 a.m. on Sundays as part of their Bears games promotions.
