AURORA — Now that they’ve all been ripped out of downtown streets, Aurora is moving forward with selling the city’s used parking meters.
Aurora will aim to sell 498 double parking meters and 327 single parking meters to New Jersey-based Meter Products Co./Take a Powder Inc. for $13,230.
Charles Koch, assistant director of finance for revenue collections, said the city will receive $10 for each single-head parking meter and $20 for each double-head parking meter. If the meters were scrapped individually, they would only be worth $2 to $3 a piece, he said.
The city’s old meters aren’t the antique turn-dial style that collectors would shell out $25 to $30 to purchase, Koch said.
Meter Products Co. will refurbish the old meters and sell them.
Downtown’s new parking plan, which eliminated parking meters, went into effect in May.
