A Westmont man was seriously injured after he was run over by a semi-truck at 1:23 p.m. Wednesday in Aurora while he was doing work on the vehicle, police said.
Police were called to Meridian Drive and Ferry Road for the report of an injured man who had gotten pinned beneath the wheels of a semi-truck.
The truck’s driver, Earl Goltschalk, of Joliet, told police he was having problems with the vehicle on his way to work, and had parked it while he called for a mechanic to come out to the scene.
He stayed in his truck, and at one point, decided that he should move the vehicle to make way for other trucks to get by. Goltschalk told police that when he went to move the truck, he heard someone scream in pain. He got out to inspect and found Daniel Trkula, who had come out to work on the truck, had been trapped beneath its rear wheels.
His arm and torso had been run over. Goltschalk said he moved the truck off of the victim, and called for help.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Police said he is expected to survive.
Goltschalk said Trkula never announced that he was there before he started working on the vehicle, and told police he had no idea there was someone working on the truck.
