AURORA — The Aurora Veterans Advisory Council will host a veterans picnic Sept. 8 to honor and spend time with local veterans who are living at the Hope for Tomorrow vets home.

The picnic is scheduled at for 3 p.m. Sept. 8 at the veterans home, 469 N. Lake St., in Aurora.

Art Sheridan, chairman of the Veterans Liaison Committee, said the goal of the event is to rally a support system for veterans who are struggling.

“We hope to make the vets in the area even more aware that the home is there for them,” Sheridan said.

The Hope For Tomorrow vets home, a residential facility for homeless veterans, opened in December 2012.
