More than a decade after he sexually assaulted a young child he knew, an Aurora man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Jose Rocha, 39, 500 block of Woodlawn Avenue, pleaded guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony, and agreed to the 15-year sentence.
Kane County prosecutors said Rocha assaulted his victim, who was under the age of 13, between April 2001 and April 2002.
The victim, who is now 19, disclosed the abuse last year. Prosecutors said that when questioned by Aurora police, Rocha admitted to the sexual assault.
He must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence, and was given credit for at least 406 days he has served since his arrest. His bail was set at $300,000.
Rocha must register for life as a sex offender in accordance with the Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act.
The case was investigated by the Aurora Police Department and prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Nydia Molina, who is assigned to the Kane County Child Advocacy Center.
