Clerks cited for selling to minors

Several clerks were cited at stores across Aurora on Saturday for allegedly selling alcohol or tobacco to a minor during and Aurora Police Department compliance check.
Nine businesses were checked for adherence to alcohol sale laws, and seven for tobacco law compliance.
Police said that only one business neglected to ask for identification from the underage person working with the department during the alcohol compliance check.
A clerk at Angelica’s Food and Beer, 2200 block of Ogden Avenue, was cited for not carding the minor attempting to buy alcohol.
Four of the seven businesses checked for tobacco compliance failed to card the undercover minor, police said.
A clerk at the Shell Gas, 1100 block of North Eola Road, two clerks at Citgo Gas stations in the 500 block of Hill Avenue, and 400 block of East New York Street, and a clerk at Bucky’s Gas Station, 300 block of North Eola Road, were all cited for selling tobacco to an underage person.
Dianna Hill, 31, 1000 block of Century Lane, Aurora, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, disregarding a stop sign, driving on a suspended/revoked license, and no insurance at 1 a.m. Tuesday in the 700 block of Fifth Avenue, police said.
A 20-year-old Yorkville man was charged with drunken driving at 3 p.m. Aug. 15, after he allegedly stuck his arm out of his vehicle in an attempt to hit a construction sign near South Main Street and West Washington, police said.
Taylor McDowell, 2700 block of Elden Drive, was also cited for improper lane usage and no insurance, police said.
Kathleen Sullivan, 29, 300 block of Pearl Street, Sandwich, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstruction of identification at 9:56 a.m. Sunday near South Main Street and Elizabeth Street, police said.
Hugo Avelar-Yanez, 25, and Ramiro Lopez, 23, both of Chicago, were charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at 7:38 p.m. Friday near Van Emmon Street and Cardinal Lane, deputies said.
