Two people have been charged with allegedly burglarizing eight different vehicles during a four-day period earlier this month in St. Charles, police said.
Kane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to eight separate calls in the area of Falcons Trail in St. Charles Township between Aug. 7 and Aug. 10. In each incident, the suspects entered unlocked cars and stole electronics, credit cards and other items, deputies said.
Sheriff’s detectives were investigating the burglaries when they were contacted by Streamwood police, who had found a stolen iPad in the possession of two people they had just arrested. The iPad was taken from a vehicle in St. Charles Township.
Sheriff’s deputies interviewed Christopher Mentenick, 25, of Sycamore, and Rebecca Olson, 19, of Schaumburg, and determined that they were suspects in the eight burglaries. Deputies said that some of the stolen credit cards had been used to purchase several items, which the pair allegedly later pawned for cash.
Mentenick was charged with one count of felony burglary, and three counts of felony possession of a stolen credit card. He remains in custody, deputies said.
Olson was charged with felony use of a forged credit card, and three counts of possession of a stolen credit card. She has bonded out, deputies said.
Sheriff Pat Perez reminds residents to keep car doors locked, and to never leave valuables in their cars. Perez said it is also a good idea to not leave garage door openers in your cars when they are parked in your driveway.
