Two charged following weekend shooting in Aurora

Two men have been charged with allegedly shooting toward a group of people who were standing outside an Aurora home on Friday afternoon.

Aurora police said Raul Botello, 23, 2200 block of Charleston Drive, Aurora, and a 16-year-old Aurora teen were charged with felony discharge of a firearm following the shooting, which occurred in the 0-99 block of North Calhoun Street around 3:45 p.m.

No one was injured, but two homes were struck by bullets, causing $2,000 in damage.

Police said Botello and the teen were on foot when the teen allegedly fired a gun toward the group. The suspects ran to an SUV and drove away.

Members of the department’s Special Operations Group spotted the SUV near Union Street and New York Street about an hour after the shooting.

Botello, the 16-year-old suspect, and two other Aurora men were found inside the vehicle.

An investigation led to charges being filed against both Botello and the teenage suspect.

The two other men, ages 17 and 18, were released without charges, police said.
