Illinois State Police are continuing their investigation into a traffic crash Monday night on Interstate 88 in DeKalb County that involved two passenger vehicles and a fuel tanker truck.
I-88 was closed to traffic in both directions as of 11 p.m. Monday in the area of Shrader and Watson roads, Trooper Michelle Kistulinec said in a news release. The road is now open to traffic in that area.
The crash occurred about 8:14 p.m. in the interstate’s eastbound lanes, Kistulinec said.
“According to the preliminary traffic investigation, a passenger vehicle struck the rear of another passenger vehicle ... causing the second vehicle to spin to the left,” Kistulinec said. “As the vehicle was spinning, a truck tractor tanker struck the vehicle.”
“Due to the truck tractor tanker leaking ethanol, all lanes are closed as a precautionary measure,” she said.
Kistulinec said she had no information about any of the motorists involved in the crash or their conditions, nor did she know whether any of the vehicles carried passengers. She said further information would be provided as it became available.
